This book consists of numerous, brief overviews of various issues, each written by a different author. The topics are broad and the chapters brief, so that the coverage is extremely superficial (the section “How should we teach in regard to culture?” in the chapter on multicultural education gets a total of 1/2 page).

The worst chapter is “The Controversy Over Brain Research”, which doesn’t cover any controversy, and instead is a completely 1-sided account. Moreover, it doesn’t cite a single piece of actual brain research, being drawn almost entirely from second-hand informal reviews in educational journals. That’s just unforgiveably shoddy.

PLEASE NOTE: This review also shows up as a review of the more recent edition. I reviewed the earlier edition, and have not seen the revised edition.

This book was brand new – still in the plastic wrap and half the price that I would have paid if I used the online bookstore through my university. The shipping was fast too. Amazon is a great resource for school textbooks.

The book itself is fine. However, I ordered it in the beginning of the semester and it took over a month to arrive! I was forced to purchase another copy from the university bookstore in order to complete my assignment.

TextbooksRus is now giving me a hard time about returning the book. I will not order from them again.
