First, about me. I have been teaching out of the country and graduated from university about 10 years ago. That means I need this test to acquire various state teaching certificates.
This book did an OK job of preparing me, but I still ended up purchasing the study guide from Praxis along with their practice test. I found the tests that come with this book to be inadequate, to say the least. Some of the practice test questions were confusing and I often strongly disagreed with their “correct” answers. In contrast, I found the Praxis example test clear and concise. When I got an answer wrong, I understood why and agreed with their assessment.
In other words, taking the tests from REA made me feel nervous and ill-prepared. Taking the practice exams from Praxis made me feel confident and prepared. Also, the practise exam from Praxis was an actual test from the pervious year. By the way, I got my scores back and I did just fine…193.
This review makes me sound like one of the Praxis company men. Hardly. We need companies like REA making study guides and I hope they will improve the next edition. Praxis charges waaay too much and I would never want them to be the only player in town.
My final advice is to purchase both the REA and official Praxis guides. Get the practice exams from Praxis, for sure. Yes, this is terribly expensive. Failing the test would be worse.

I do not suggest someone use this book as their only means to study for the Praxis II Elementary Education: Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment (0011). Some of the material on the test is not covered in this book. For example, the study guide did not touch on blends, digraphs, dipthongs, etc. and that was on the test. Granted, it is impossible for one book to include EVERYTHING, but I wouldn’t put all my confidence in this book for studying. The information is short and sweet and doesn’t elaborate much. I found some of the information often repeated. The practice tests in the book are not in the correct order. The actual test is sectioned off by subject (Lang Arts/Reading, Math, Social Studies, Science, Art/PE/Music, and General Content), and this book mixes it all together so it is not a true representation of an actual test. I found the practice tests from ETS to be more beneficial than the ones offered in this book. On the positive side, this book helped me fill in some of the missing pieces in my notes.

Amazon has the best price around! This guide is extremely helpful for studying for the Elementary Ed. PRAXIS. It includes both paper and computer tests to really help the test taker have confidence before the day of the test.
